TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Merapi located in Central Java and Yogyakarta spewed hot lava with a maximum sliding distance of 700 meters towards Kali Krasak and Boyong on Tuesday morning, as reported by the Geological Disaster Research and Technology Development Center (BPPTKG).

From 00:00 to 06:00 today, the volcano launched red hot lava six times. The agency head Hanik Humaida also reported that during the observation period, there were 25 earthquake avalanches with an amplitude of 3-20 mm for 10-90 seconds, 11 multi-phase quakes with an amplitude of 3-8 mm for 4-8 seconds, and one shallow quake with an amplitude of 70 mm for 19 seconds.

The volcano also emitted white smoke with moderate to thick intensity as high as 50 meters from the summit.

Previously from 18:00 to 24:00 on Monday, February 8, the mountain had released hot lava 12 times with a maximum sliding distance of 1,500 meters to the southwest. The volcano status remained at Level Alert III or Siaga.

The lava avalanches and hot clouds of Mount Merapi were predicted to affect the south to southwest areas, including Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Putih River. The eruption of volcanic material could likely reach regions within a radius of three kilometers from the mountain peak.
