TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry on Monday announced that 811,000 healthcare workers across Indonesia have received the first COVID-19 vaccination shots.

“At 12:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) there were more than 1,000,000 healthcare workers that were vaccinated, amounting to 811,000 in the first phase of vaccination while the second phase saw 167,000 vaccinated,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin on Monday, February 8.

However, according to the official report, there were 193,000 healthcare workers who did not receive their vaccine shots due to health conditions such as hypertension, comorbids, or being survivors of COVID-19.

The Health Ministry initially aimed at vaccinating 1.5 million healthcare workers until February 2021. Based on the progress so far, the minister believes the goal would be achieved by the end of this month. The national COVID-19 vaccination initially started on January 13, 2021, and is eyeing to vaccinate 181.5 million Indonesians in 15 months.

“Hopefully, we will be able to move faster in the future,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
