TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands offered three sports tourism agendas for those who purposely travel for active participation in sports events this year, in efforts to boost tourist visits.

"We have arranged three sports tourism agendas in the 2021 Belitung tourism calendar," said the regional tourism agency head Jasagung Haryadi on Wednesday, February 3.

The agendas include a fishing competition entitled 'Mancing de Belitung Rebound', the Popnas Beach Volleyball Championship, and Belitong Geopark Ultra Run. "They are national events," Jasagung added.

He believed the events would attract massive tourist arrivals, recalling that last year’s fishing competition gathered tourists from various regions.

"Reports said that there were a huge number of participants and many could not pass the registration," said Jasagung.

Additionally, Belitung scheduled 65 tourist events, including 25 routine agendas and 40 additional agendas as it targeted to receive 250,000 tourist visits.

"We are focusing on attracting domestic tourists to visit Belitung because we have not yet opened tourism for international visits and several countries are still closing their doors," said Jasagung.
