Jakarta Records Over 3,000 New Covid-19 Cases for Four Consecutive Days

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's number of Covid-19 patients reportedly increased by more than 3,000 again today. The city’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control Division, Dwi Oktavia, said there were 3,362 new cases on Tuesday, February 2.

The results were obtained from PCR swab tests on 18,314 specimens. “Of which, 16,217 were given PCR tests to diagnose new cases. From the results, 3,362 tested positive while 12,855 turned back negative,” said Dwi in a written statement, Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

The capital city recorded more than 3,000 new coronavirus infections for four consecutive days. The agency detected 3,448 new cases on January 29, 3,491 on January 30, 3,474 on January 31, and 3,614 on February 1.

The positivity rate in the last week reached 17.9 percent. "While the total rate is 10.2 percent," Dwi added. The figure exceeded the safe recommended rate set by the World Health Organization (WHO) of less than five percent.

Jakarta has confirmed 276,694 Covid-19 cases thus far, of which 23,800 are still being treated or undergoing isolation, 4,379 have died, and 248,515 have recovered. The city’s mortality rate was 1.6 percent, while the recovery rate hit 89.8 percent.
