TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Publicly-listed pharmaceutical firm Kalbe Farma is eyeing to increase its PCR testing capacity to 2,000 tests daily. Since the pandemic devastated Indonesia, the company has contributed to the number of Covid-19 tests in the country.
Kalbe Farma president director Vidjongtius said since early March of 2020, his office has only made available 100-200 PCR testings daily. It gradually continued to increase the daily testing capacity to 1,200 and will soon be boosted to 2,000 Covid-19 tests.
“We are now almost testing 2,000 samples every day and we hope this will continue as results are what patients are waiting for,” he said to Bisnis Indonesia on Thursday, January 28.
Kalbe Farma is the first private pharmaceutical firm that is equipped with BioSafety level 2 laboratories or BSL-2, which is required to conduct Covid-19 PCR tests in real-time. Kalbe director Sie Djohan said the tests are conducted by its subsidiaries such as KALGen InoLab.
