TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Yogyakarta Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) recorded that the hot clouds from Mount Merapi throughout Wednesday, January 27, reached up to 3,000 meters from the summit.

It was noted as the farthest glide of the hot clouds or locally known Wedhus Gembel since the volcano erupted effusively on January 4.

On the same day, the agency also detected 36 eruptions of hot ash with a distance of 500-3,000 meters from 00:00 to 14:00 local times, heading to the southwest or Kali Krasak and Boyong.

The agency head Hanik Humaida confirmed that despite the flow of hot clouds getting farther, it did not pass the danger zone recommended by BPPTKG, Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), and the Geological Agency.

The danger zone was set as far as 5 kilometers or 5,000 meters from the summit of the volcano in Kali Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Putih.

“People are appealed not to carry out activities in the recommended areas,” Hanik said on Wednesday, adding that people must stay vigilant of cold lava, especially during rainfall at the top of Mount Merapi.
