TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) climatologist Erma Yulihastin, announced that the peak of the rainy season in Indonesia will likely occur this week, which is confirmed by the formation of clouds and increased rain intensity in the country's southern region.

"The peak of the rainy season is forecasted to happen on January 29, 2021," said Yulihastin on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Rain is forecasted to intensify equally across the southern hemisphere of Sumatra Island that reaches up to Alor Island nearby Timor Leste.

The Lapan climatologist said that the agency's Sadewa weather forecaster shows that a number of Indonesian regions will also experience persistent rainfall from noon to 9:00 PM in the evening on Wednesday, January 2021. According to the agency, this is due to the mesoscale convergence that stretches above land areas.

"Especially in the Java Island, the center of the convergence happens in the middle," said Yulihastin.

Moreover, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) also recorded 94 percent of Indonesian regions of the total 342 seasonal zones entering the peak rainy season that will last up to February 2021.
