TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The City Government of Pekanbaru, Riau, planned to build a monument of the Indonesian language near the Tenayan Raya Office on an area of 10 hectares.

“The construction of the language monument and museum is necessary to respect the ancestors of the Malay language, as the origin of the Indonesian language. This will also serve as an education site,” said Mayor Firdaus on Monday, Jan. 25.

According to him, the building would also be a symbol of gratitude for the origin of the national language. Thus, various parties would be involved in the construction, such as cultural practitioners, artists, and people in general.

Various activities could be developed in the buildings, including using advanced communication technology. “This monument can also introduce the tradition to the millennial generation with modern equipment,” Firdaus added.

After establishing a study team, the Pekanbaru government would propose the plan to the central government. Firdaus hoped that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi would approve the construction of the monument of Indonesian Language.
