TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 Mitigation and National Economic Recovery (KPC-PEN) chairman, Airlangga Hartarto, confirmed that the government was drafting regulations on the Covid-19 vaccination through a private scheme. The vaccine to be used would reportedly be different from that of the free program.

"As for the government’s plan to accelerate the vaccination via a private scheme, the regulations are being prepared. It will regulate purchases by certain industrial sectors and employees will obtain free injections, too,” said Airlangga in an online press conference on Thursday, Jan. 21.

The minister added several technical issues related to private inoculation will be ruled in detail. "And the source of the vaccine will be asked to be different than the one used in the free vaccination," he remarked.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo earlier stated that private vaccination is necessary to expedite the formation of herd immunity.

“We really need to accelerate it, hold [vaccination] as much as possible, let alone the cost is borne by the company. So why not?” said Jokowi at the Kompas100 CEO Forum event today, Jan. 21.
