TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The advocacy team for the police shooting and deaths of six members of the recently defunct group Islam Defenders Front (FPI) on December 7, 2020, has taken the case to the International Criminal Court (ICC) which was confirmed by the organization’s former secretary Munarman on Tuesday, January 19.

“That is true, the advocacy team has reported the case to the ICC,” said Munarman to Tempo.

In a screen shot that Tempo received, the advocacy group had officially requested the ICC to follow up the report on the shooting on what they stated as “tragedies of May 21-22 and December 7, 2020.”

In a separate press release, Munarman regrets the statement issued by the National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Ahmad Taufan Damanik, which he deemed derogatory towards the victims of the police shooting.

“It is said that Ahmad Taufik Damanik stated that the victims had clashed with the perpetrators of severe human rights violations, and what is cruel is that Ahmad Damanik implied that the six victims had enjoyed the life struggle they endured,” Munarman stated.

The former secretary for FPI argues that the statement proves the national legal mechanism are unwilling and unable to solve the human rights violation.
