Indonesia Records 8 Consecutive Months of Trade Surplus

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The central statistics agency, Statistics Indonesia or BPS , announced another trade surplus. In December 2020, the trade balance recorded a surplus of US $ 2.1 billion, which is the eighth surplus in a row.
BPS head Suhariyanto said on Friday, January 15 that the biggest contributor to the surplus was animal or vegetable fats and oils (HS 15), including CPO.
This is a surplus for the eighth consecutive month. The last trade balance deficit was recorded in April 2020, by US$370 million.
Suhariyanto said that the two mainstay commodities contributed to the surplus. Coal prices rose 28.93 percent on a monthly basis and 25.5 percent year-on-year (yoy).
Meanwhile, CPO gained 6.62 percent (monthly) and 28.13 percent (yoy).
