TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) chairman Daeng M. Faqih appealed to the public to trust in the Covid-19 vaccine regardless of the brand or the country that develops it but rather based on the scientific aspects.

“The safety and effectiveness of the vaccine are guaranteed, regardless of its origin and brand,” said Daeng in his statement on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021.

Daeng argued that it was necessary for regional heads and public figures to be the role model in the vaccination program in a bid to build public trust. After the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) grants an emergency use permit, he emphasized that IDI would set an example to be the first to get the shot.

According to him, IDI had established a vaccination advocacy team to provide recommendations to the government so that the immunization program could be welcomed by the community.

IDI also disseminated to the public that vaccination is a good option to end a pandemic. “The ultimate goal is to make doctors get vaccinated in the first stage. And during the mass vaccination for the public, health workers can participate to succeed in the program,” Daeng said.
