Jakarta Hospitals Nearly Full; Deputy Gov Says COVID-19 Spreads Faster

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the city administration would increase the capacity of isolation beds and ICU rooms for COVID-19 patients as the occupancy rates in the capital’s referral hospitals reached 85 percent and 80 percent, respectively.
“We are working to add various facilities,” Riza told reporters at the City Hall today, Jan. 8, 2021.
The city administration, he added, must work harder to contain the pandemic. “The virus spreads faster than we produce masks, let alone recruit health workers, open ICU rooms, and build hospitals,” Riza remarked.
The Gerindra politician urged Jakarta residents to be more disciplined in implementing the predetermined health protocols dubbed the 3M, viz. wearing a face mask, keeping a distance from each other, and regularly washing hands with soap.
“Don’t let our spouse, parents, or us be exposed to or even die [of COVID-19] to realize the importance of applying the health protocols,” the Deputy Governor underlined.
