TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Sinabung in the Karo Regency of North Sumatra continues its activity as an eruption has once again been recorded from the 3,460 meter mountain on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) reported spewing ash clouds as high as 1,000-meters in the latest eruption, which is twice as high as the last Sinabung eruption on December 28 last year.

Head of the PVMBG Kasbani stated that the ash clouds were in ‘dense intensity’ that tended to head to the Northwest region.

Mount Sinabung is currently at Alert status level III and recommends tourism activities and visitors to avoid villages nearby that have been relocated within a radius of 3-kilometers from the erupting mountain. The PVMBG also recommends the use of masks for activities in the mountain’s vicinity due to volcanic ashes.
