TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday, December 28, recorded a magnitude 5.4 earthquake from the Molucca Sea. It was located 90 kilometers southeast of Bolaang Uki City in North Sulawesi.

BMKG head of earthquake mitigation and tsunami, Daryono, in today’s press statement said the shallow earthquake - recorded to centered from 42 kilometers beneath the sea - was caused by subduction activities from Maluku Sea.

The tremor was reportedly felt at Kotamobagu, Banggai Laut, and Luwuk while lesser intense of the quake was felt at East Modayag Bolaang Mongondow, Lolak Bolaang Mongondow, Manado, Bitung, Sumalata, Gorontalo, and Taliabu.

Daryono reported that there were no reports on damages caused by the earthquake and he also said there have been zero reports of aftershocks.
