TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government continues to closely monitor the development of the new variant of the Covid-19 virus reportedly been detected in the United Kingdom.

“The government will strengthen its surveillance by constantly monitoring the development of this virus that is extremely dynamic,” said the Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito.

Apart from the discovery of the new variant, Wiku said the government continues to encourage people to remain disciplined with the health protocols which obliges people to wear masks, maintain physical distances, and constantly wash their hands after conducting activities.

Moreover, the task force is also bolstering its monitoring over people’s mobility amidst the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in regional levels including those traveling with land transports, either by public or personal transport.

“Regional task forces will conduct sudden inspections in certain locations,” said Wiku. “The government will continue to encourage people to take tests as a form of personal responsibility for those who travel.”
