TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regional Government of Malang Regency in East Java, decided to temporarily close a number of tourist attractions during the 2020 year-end holidays.
Head of the Malang Regency Tourism and Culture Agency Made Arya Wedhantara, said that the closure was part of an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.
"We will send a notification letter to all tourist site management in the regency regarding this [mandatory closure]," said Made to Antara on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
The closure, he added, will take effect from December 30, 2020, until January 1, 2021.
Made hoped that the management of tourist sites across the second largest district in East Java Province could understand the government's decision, which was taken to anticipate a spike in coronavirus cases following the long holidays.
The policy to close tourist destinations in Malang Regency was also directed by Malang Regent M Sanusi in accordance with the instruction of the Home Affairs Minister due to fear of large crowds amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
