TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A research claimed that nutrition and vitamins can help to repel and prevent the infection of the new coronavirus. As reported by the Times of India, the presence of the new coronavirus has caused medical experts to urge people to increase their micronutrient intake to increase natural immunity. However, there is no confirmation on the effectiveness of the method and more studies are being done to elaborate on the issue.

Meanwhile, #socialdistancing #wearmasks and disinfecting surfaces are some of the main solutions to prevent the virus from spreading. Nevertheless, doctors continue to urge patients to maintain their immunity by consuming nutritious foods and vitamins, mainly vitamin C and D.

Vitamin C acts as a potent antioxidant that helps to reduce inflammation. In the past, Vitamin C had successfully prevented the infection of certain viruses and bacteria and therefore considered important in the treatment of a disease.

However, not many can be proven in relation to Covid-19. Research published on the Nutrition journal stated that vitamin C can help to prevent Covid-19 and to reduce inflammation reactions in severe infection cases. However, the research does not provide any meaningful confirmation.

Similarly, vitamin D can also increase a person's immunity. According to a study in 2019 based on clinical trials, vitamin D supplements claimed to be able to reduce the severity of respiratory infection in patients treated in hospitals. In addition, other research discovered a connection between low levels of vitamin D and a higher percentage of Covid-19 infection.

Then how about zinc? Zinc is the most important mineral that can help the body to fight against dangerous viral and bacteria infections. Although the human body needs zinc to develop and activate limfosit-T, which is part of the human body's immunity system, there is no strong evidence that recommends or forbids the use of zinc to treat Covid-19.
