TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Sumatra government was preparing three agendas in January 2021 to attract tourists, namely Pamalayu Festival, Serak Gulo and Indian Culture, and the Cap Go Meh Festival.

“News about vaccines gives us hope that the pandemic will end in 2021. In the tourism sector, we surely welcome this hope by preparing several agendas for tourists,” said the West Sumatra Tourism Agency Head Novrial on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020.

According to him, the agenda was initiated along with the regency/city administrations and the community. “Pandemic occurs for one full year, the tourism sector is one of the worst affected. Hopefully, all sectors can bounce back in 2021,” said Novrial.

The first agenda is Pamalayu Festival that was slated to take place on January 1-7, 2021 in Dharmasraya Regency. The art and culture event aims at enlightening tourists about the history of the Dharmasraya Kingdom.

Serak Gulo and Indian Culture will be held in Padang City on January 14, 2021. The annual sugary celebration is a tradition of the Indian community in Padang.

The last festival to be established in January 2021 in Padang is Cap Go Meh to celebrate Chinese New Year. Located in Kota Tua, the festival will be enlivened with attractions of Barongsai and more.
