TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Edhy Prabowo has officially stepped down from his position as Maritime and Fisheries Minister early Thursday morning after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced the former minister’s status as a suspect in the alleged business permit grafts.

“I will no longer be a state-minister. I am sure the process is ongoing,” said Edhy Prabowo at the KPK ‘merah putih’ headquarters in KPK’s live broadcast on November 26.

The Gerindra party politician was arrested by KPK on November 25, in the anti-graft agency’s sting operation (OTT) at Soekarno-Hatta International’s Terminal 3 as Edhy was just returning from his work visit to the United States.

The KPK sting operation also arrested 16 people spread across Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

In the suspect-naming press conference, Edhy Prabowo apologized to his mother and Indonesians in general, especially those who actively engage in fisheries. Apart from stepping down as state-minister, he has also resigned from his position as Gerindra Party deputy chairman.
