TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria stated that the city administration would not hesitate to pull the emergency brake and reimpose the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) if residents do not comply with the health protocol against Covid-19.

In the City Hall today, November 25, he called on Jakartans to stay at home if there is no urgent or important thing, especially those under nine years old and over 60 years old.

According to the deputy governor, many people who are vigilant, stay hidden, and isolated could still be exposed to the coronavirus, let alone those who are reckless and travel here and there.

“We do not want a significant increase [in virus infection] in the next two weeks so that we are forced to pull the emergency brake,” Riza asserted.

Jakarta provincial administration hoped people could protect each other from the virus. Moreover, negligence in the health protocol could cause an impact on the economy.

“So please be obedient and compliant [to the health protocol]. Show the empathy for others who comply with [the protocol] but are forced to leave work because of our undisciplined behavior,” said Riza.

The Jakarta Government has extended the Transitional PSBB for 14 days, starting from November 23 to December 6, 2020. The decision was made based on the governor’s decree which confirmed that the policy will automatically be extended for two weeks if there is no significant surge in Covid-19 cases.
