TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) and the Ministry of Industry are set to lobby automotive principles in an attempt to increase the quota of Indonesia’s car exports to eye the Australian market.

Gaikindo chairman Yohannes Nangoi explained the association and the ministry would approach principles and asked for more leeway in terms of Indonesia’s manufacturing exports.

“We will approach the principles because the export permit of each brand is granted by their main headquarters. That is what we need to approach,” sad Nangoi in a virtual discussion on November 20.

Nangoi believed Indonesia will be able to jack up the exports of motorized vehicles, saying many market potentials had yet to be tapped, one of which is Australia. He added Australia’s car sales in 2019 reached 1.2 million vehicles that were all imported.

“The problem is, the imports from Indonesia do not exist even though we are the closest country to them,” said the Gaikindo chairperson.
