TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian issued ministerial instruction No. 6 of 2020 concerning the Enforcement of the Health Protocol to Control Covid-19 Spread on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

The instruction, which was aimed at governors and mayors or regents, was released to ensure that regional heads support the government’s efforts to control virus transmission.

Regional heads were asked to consistently enforce the health protocol against Covid-19 and prevent crowds that potentially break the protocol from occurring during the pandemic.

“Carrying out prevention measures is better than taking action. Prevention can be done in a humane way, while the action such as dispersing crowds can be taken in a firm and measured manner as the last resort,” as quoted from the second point of the Instruction.

Tito Karnavian also noted that regional heads should be role models for the community in complying with the policy and not participate in crowds that could potentially violate the predetermined health protocol.

Based on the instruction which takes effect immediately as of Wednesday, November 18, 2020, regional heads who violate the rules may face sanctions, including dismissal.
