TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at the annual Google for Indonesia (Google4ID) event said that Indonesia needs a lot of training to develop human resources in the information technology sector.
“So that it can meet the needs of 9 million digital talents by 2035,” said the President on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.
In the event which was held via a video conference, Widodo explained that training to support the acceleration of the digital economy requires a large number of digital human resources. “Thus the development cannot be delayed any longer,” he added.
To realize the target, according to him, the government could not work alone and needs to collaborate with universities and private parties.
Besides, Indonesia needs to increase digital literacy, especially among the young generation so that they will use the internet properly and safely. “And being responsible, free from misinformation and disinformation, and help to fight off hoax or false news,” the state head underlined.
He argued that good digital literacy will encourage the positive use of digital technology. Thus, it could enhance productivity and distance learning, support social activities, philanthropic events, and fundraising for humanity, as well as boost solidarity and cooperation.
“I hope various initiatives such as Google for Indonesia 2020 will continue to emerge and contribute to the country’s human resources in the information technology sector to help develop MSMEs and rise together for an advanced Indonesia,” Jokowi remarked.
