TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, on Wednesday’s statement wrote that the mangrove rehabilitation program the government has prepared will rehabilitate 600,000 hectares which will be executed in an 'integrated and measured manner.'

He said the integrated aspect comes as the program involves multi partnerships with domestic and international strategic partners to restore Indonesia's mangroves as it is 20 percent of the world’s mangrove areas.

“The Indonesian government is committed to rehabilitate up to 600,000 hectares in the next four years from 2020 - 2024 that will involve multi stakeholders,” said Luhut Pandjaitan in his statement on November 11.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s records, Indonesia currently has 3.31 million hectares of mangrove forests with 637,625 hectares under critical condition in desperate need of rehabilitation.

Sources of funding for this nationwide mangrove rehabilitation program comes from the World Bank, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, numerous corporate social responsibilities, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) green port programs.
