TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mercedes-Benz has entered its 50th year of operating in Indonesia. The German carmaker is celebrating the golden anniversary with all employees in the Wanaherang factory area, remembering the company's journey in the country.

The event also showcases vehicles assembled locally at the Wanaherang factory, including the GLE 450 4MATIC and the GLS 450 4MATIC, which cater to the upper-class SUV segment.

Mercedes-Benz Indonesia president director Patrick Schwind said that for 50 years the company has produced a series of luxury cars in Indonesia, for Indonesia.

"We have demonstrated and proven that we are capable of assembling and producing high-quality luxury vehicles in Indonesia," Schwind said in an official statement, Tuesday, November 10.

Mercedes-Benz arrived in Indonesia in 1970. German Motors Manufacturing was established as a new manufacturing and assembly facility for the Daimler-Benz model, located in Tanjung Priok, officially marking the start of a new era for the brand in Indonesia.

Benz's current assembly plant stands on a 42-hectare land in Wanaherang, Bogor, West Java, founded in 1978. In 2009, the Mercedes-Benz Indonesia factory was named as an automaker with Eco-industrial certification from TÜV Rheinland, to ensure its objectives and environmental principles during the production process.
