Govt Involves Religious Organizations in COVID-19 Vaccination Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Executive Office of the President (KSP) said the government will involve a wide range of religious mass-organizations to counter the wave of rejection against the future COVID-19 vaccine. These organizations will act as messengers of information related to the vaccination program.
“The government wants to be truly transparent regarding the vaccine’s production,” said KSP deputy V expert member, Rumadi Ahmad, in a written statement on Thursday, November 5.
According to Rumadi, who is also Nahdlatul Ulama's Head Committee of the Human Resource Development Study (LAKPESDAM), the government’s future COVID-19 vaccination program aligns with the teachings of the Islamic prophet.
The saying of the prophet he referred to is that “For every illness, there is a cure, but this cure must be attempted and searched for and does not come on its own.”
This comes after Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin explained that vaccines without the 'halal' label can be used but only after it is determined to be safe by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The VP once labeled the meningitis vaccine made by Belgium’s Glaxo Smith Kline as haram in 2010 as he was still an active member of MUI.
