TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government’s initial plan to introduce the COVID-19 vaccination program early in November will likely be backtracked to the third week of December this year. The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan mentioned this during the 7th Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources (SDSWR).

Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said that “We will be conducting the vaccination in the third week of December,” said Luhut in the virtual meeting on November 4.

Luhut currently holds the position as the deputy of the COVID-19 handling and the national economic recovery committee (KPCPEN).

The development of the future COVID-19 vaccines are currently being conducted in Bandung, West Java. This is done in a joint effort by state-pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma and China’s Sinovac Biotech.

The minister also revealed that Indonesia is eyeing to vaccinate 9 million citizens in a specific region that has a major contribution in the growth of the country’s COVID-19 cases.

According to Luhut, the government’s short term plan also includes making Bali a green zone by 2021.
