TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Secretariat Ministry has reportedly punished the state official responsible for preparing the Job Creation Law draft that ended up having a number of typing errors before it was handed to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“The State Secretary has imposed a disciplinary sanction on the state official responsible [for the errors],” said the ministry’s spokesperson Eddy Cahyono Sugiarto in a written statement on November 4.
He further elaborated that through a string of internal investigations they determined that the typing errors were pure mistakes; there were no bad intentions behind. "The errors were purely caused by human error,” said Cahyono.
The written statement also mentioned that the errors do not change the law’s substance and were more of a technical mistake. However, the State Secretariat assured that this incident will be a valuable lesson for future draft law formulations.
Previously, constitutional law expert Bivitri Susanti revealed the typos contained in the Job Creation Law’s Article 6 Chapter III, Article 5 (1), and Article 53 Chapter XI in the version that was already ratified by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Bivitri said that the mistakes can potentially affect the implementation of the law and will be made worse as laws that have been signed by the President cannot just easily be corrected.
“What are the legal implications? The Articles that are known to be wrong cannot be implemented. Because in legal terms, an Article cannot be run according to the imagination of the Law’s applicator, but it must be as what it is written as,” said Bivitri.
