TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi reportedly contracted the coronavirus disease or Covid-19. The Mayor, who is familiarly called Hendi, is the sole candidate in the upcoming Semarang Regional Election or Pilkada. He runs as the mayoral candidate with his deputy, Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu.

Hendi confirmed that he is positive for the infection via a WhatsApp text on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. He also asked for prayer for his recovery. “Please pray for my speedy recovery,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician.

However, it is not known yet where he got infected with the new coronavirus. Besides, Hendi was non-committal when asked whether he was having medical treatment in a hospital or being quarantined at home.

Previously, video footage showing Hendi singing on stage with his campaign volunteers without a face mask attracted public limelight.

In the 2020 Pilkada, Hendi and his partner were endorsed by all political parties, both those having seats in Semarang Legislative Council (DPRD) and not. He will compete against a blank box.
