TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo received a visit from the United States Secretary of State Mike R. Pompeo on Thursday, 29 October. Mr. Pompeo visited Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.
Pompeo was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, who invited him in to meet the president. Both ministers wore face masks. Jokowi and Mr. Pompeo then had a meeting inside the palace.
"Your visit in the midst of this pandemic shows the importance of strategic partnerships between Indonesia and America. And during this pandemic, our officials' visits have been quite intensive," Jokowi said when opening the meeting.
Like most palace guests, Mr. Pompeo was also invited to the palace veranda to see the Palace courtyard.
Before meeting Jokowi, Mr. Pompeo made an official visit to Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi. The two have also given official press statements regarding the visit.
