Indonesia's Exports Remain Competitive Amid Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s processing industry’s exports from January to September, 2020, amassed USD 94.36 billion, with the manufacturing industry being the largest contributor to the national export value.

“This means that our industry remains aggressive in breaking into the international market amid the hard times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” wrote R. Janu Suryanto, the Ministry of Industry’s head of data and information in a press release on Friday, October 23.

Citing Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia’s cumulative exports in January to September 2020 hovered at USD 117.19 billion, while the value from the processing industry’s shipping contributed up to 80.5 percent.

The balance of trade in the processing industry during the same period saw a surplus of USD 8.87 billion, with the food industry exporting up to USD 21.31 billion, which was an increase of 10.5 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
