TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian movie theater chain Cinepolis has reopened today, October 21, 2020, after the Jakarta administration and Governor Anies Baswedan allowed its reopening on conditions during the Transitional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB).

Cinepolis management underlined it would implement strict health protocols based on government regulations and recommendations. The cinemas that will be reopened are in five locations, viz. Plaza Semanggi, Gajah Mada Plaza, Tamini Square, and Cibubur Junction.

CEO of Cinepolis Cinemas Indonesia, Gerald Dibbayawan, said his side committed to applying 71 service protocols as an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as body temperature checks, age restriction, the use of face masks, online ticket booking, maintaining the distance between visitors, and others.

“Movie theaters in many countries have been reopened since June, and to date, there is no case of COVID-19 transmitted in cinemas,” said Gerald in a written statement quoted on Wednesday, October 21.

Additionally, Cinepolis offered a breakthrough: private theater rentals. People who wish to watch with their families and relatives could rent a whole auditorium at the cinema for themselves without having to share seats with other unknown visitors. The use of the studio would be adjusted to the applicable health protocol.

The private screening service was set at Rp599,000 for 15 to 25 people. Visitors are free to choose the film. Gerald argued this movie theater rental system is a solution for moviegoers who are missing to experience the atmosphere of watching on a big screen more safely and conveniently.
