TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo welcomed Japanese companies that are planning to relocate and expand their investment to Indonesia.

“I welcome the relocation and expansion of investment of Japanese firms to Indonesia, such as Denso, Sagami, Panasonic, Mitsubishi Chemical, and Toyota,” said the President in a joint press statement following a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Yoshihide Suga at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

The President mentioned Japan as one of Indonesia's strategic partners in the economic sector.

On the occasion, he asked Japan to address issues on import permits for agricultural, forestry, and fishery products from Indonesia.

“I also encourage Japan to participate in Indonesia's Sovereign Wealth Fund,” he added.

They further discussed the two country’s partnership in strengthening multilateral cooperation. Jokowi highlighted the importance of the spirit of cooperation, especially in the midst of increasing rivalries among the world's great powers.

"The spirit of inclusive cooperation is necessary to be further promoted in the Indopacific partnership as reflected in the ASEAN outlook on the Indopacific,” Jokowi concluded.
