TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta has reportedly granted permits for several movie theaters to reopen amid the Transitional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB). This was confirmed by Bambang Ismadi, the head of the Tourism Industry at the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency.

“The operating permits of Cinema XXI, Cinepolis, and CGV have been issued. It is informed that they are reopening today,” said Bambang via a text message to Tempo on Wednesday, October 21.

Previously, Cinema XXI management claimed they could not confirm yet about the reopening schedule as they waited for instructions released by the city’s Tourism and Creative Economy Agency.

“After we obtain the latest instruction, we will further study the regulations,” said Cinema XXI’s Head of Corporate Communications and Brand Management, Dewinta Hutagaol, in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

On October 11, 2020, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the reinforcement of the Transitional PSBB which would be valid until Sunday, October 25, 2020.

A day after the governor’s announcement, Bambang said movie theaters were allowed to reopen under several conditions, including having an operating permit issued by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency.
