TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Koalisi Bersihkan Indonesia [the coalition to clean Indonesia] and Fraksi Rakyat Indonesia [Indonesian people’s faction] released a report entitled the “oligarchic law book” claiming to tell the story about the role of the mining industry and conflicts of interests from ‘dirty energy’ behind the omnibus law on job creation.

“We found that there are potentially conflict of interests throughout the process of making the job creation law,” said Ahmad Ashov Birry from the koalisi bersihkan Indonesia on October 18th virtual press conference.

He further explained that the formation of the omnibus law was first mentioned by President Jokowi’s inaugural speech for his second term in office, but was managed to be passed by members of the House (DPR) less than one year after.

According to Ahmad, there are at least three state ministers affiliated to the mining industry in President Jokowi’s Cabinet. They also found possible conflict of interest in the creation of the law by the task force and the House of Representatives working committee that handled the omnibus law.

“Within the task force, we found at least 9 people affiliated with the mining and dirty energy business,” said Ahmad.
