TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government’s fact-finding team (TGPF) has reportedly arrived in Papua on Wednesday, October 7. The Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs said that the TGPF was split into two teams with one arriving at the Mozes Kilangin Timika airport while the other landed at Jayapura.

“The two groups that are led by Benny Mamoto and comprising public figures, religious figures, traditional leaders, and campus figures will immediately start their job today,” the official statement said.

The ministry’s release suggests that the teams will quickly gather information through meetings and witness interviews along with questioning “neutral figures.”

The conflict in Papua’s Intan Jaya District took place from September 15 to 20 which unfortunately killed four people - according to latest reports - consisting of two soldiers from the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), one civilian, and a Pastor, Yeremia.

Conflicting eyewitness testimonies have emerged from the conflict zone’s ground zero where one side accuses the perpetrators to be TNI members while others claim the bloody conflict was sparked by Papuan armed criminal groups. This has been the main reason driving Minister Mahfud MD to create the fact-finding team.
