TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national Covid-19 task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, announced that Indonesia's total confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection reached up to 311,176 cases as of Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
"It's important to note that the confirmed number of Covid-19 cases has reached over 300 thousand, which is a large number and shows that infections continue to happen," said Wiku in a virtual press conference at the Presidential Secretariat Office on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
Wiku argued that the chain of infections continues to occur due to the lack of discipline towards health protocols established to prevent further spread. "The numbers will continue to rise as long as people continue to ignore [the protocols]," said Wiku.
The health protocols oversee physical distancing rules, self-hygiene, and the mandatory use of face masks.
In the global ranking, Indonesia currently sits at number137 out of 216 countries with an average of 1,120 confirmed COVID-19 cases for each 1 million population. Meanwhile, in terms of fatalities, Indonesia ranked in number 102, while the country's recovery rate sits at number 19.
