TNI Anniversary; Jokowi Appreciates Military Role in COVID-19 Response

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo acted as the ceremony inspector in the Indonesian Military or TNI 75th anniversary ceremony on Monday, October 5, 2020.
The virtual ceremony started at 9 a.m. Indonesian Western Time (WIB) and was broadcast on the Youtube account of the Presidential Secretariat. Meanwhile, Col. Eri Ahmad Harahap acted as the commander of the ceremony.
In his speech, the President expressed his appreciation for the role of the TNI in containing the COVID-19 pandemic. “Thank you for the active role of the military in handling the impacts of the pandemic, both in disciplining [the public to comply with] the health protocol and in helping the treatment in the military hospitals.”
He advised the TNI to continue improving its abilities, professionalism, and readiness to accept the next tasks. The military personnel were also reminded to uphold the mandate of Sapta Marga or Seven Pledges and the Soldiers’ Oath.
“Maintain the unity of the TNI with the people. Make synergy as the strength to build the country, bringing Indonesia to become a developed country,” said Jokowi.
