Indonesia Latest Covid-19 Situation; 4, 174 New Cases Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's new cases of coronavirus infection continue to increase by more than 4,000 daily. On the first day of October, the National Covid-19 Task Force recorded 4, 174 more people had contracted the virus.

Indonesia's total number of Covid-19 infections now reaches 291,182 cases since the first infection was reported on March 2.

"The number active cases is 61,839 or 21.2 percent, slightly below the global percentage of active cases, which is 22.5 percent," the Task Force's spokesman, Wiku Adisasmito, said on Thursday, October 1.

Today's number of recoveries is 3,540, bringing the total to 218,487. Meanwhile, the number of deaths increased by 116. In total, Indonesia has recorded 10,856 deaths related to the new coronavirus.

The government is also still monitoring 135,480 suspect cases.

Jakarta continues to account for the most number of new daily cases. Today, 1,253 people in the capital tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total number up to 74,989.
