Govt Claims Omnibus Bill Will Not Scrap Amdal Requirement

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The expert staff at the Coordinating Ministry for Economy, Elen Setiadi, said the omnibus bill - also known as the job creation bill (RUU Cipta Kerja), will not scrap the environmental impact analysis (Amdal) requirement in terms of doing business.
“We are only simplifying the business process without eliminating the essences of environmental protection and environmental support,” said Elen Setiadi in Thursday’s virtual discussion.
Setiadi said that the work creation bill will integrate environmental permit with the business permit. “The Amdal will remain for high-risk activities,” he added.
The government considered that the ecosystem in Indonesia’s ease of doing business must undergo significant changes. Therefore, the job creation bill was created. Setiadi maintained that the RUU Cipta Kerja will enable the government to conduct deregulations and de-bureaucratization.
He claimed that the bill will spark economic growth and establish an equilibrium between labor protection and business competitiveness.
