TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national Covid-19 mitigation task force chairman Doni Monardo reported that seven percent of patients isolated at the Wisma Atlet Hospital were exposed to the coronavirus disease despite staying at home.

“Seven percent of people who are treated [in the emergency hospital] have not left homes,” said Doni in a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII on Tuesday, September 22.

Doni said they were likely infected with the virus from the family members who were still having out-of-home-activities and neglecting the health protocols when they returned homes. Thus, he warned the public to apply basic health principles at home.

“Those who are staying home must also stay alert, be careful,” said Doni.

As of Tuesday, 4,156 people were being treated at Wisma Atlet Hospital. The hospital spokesperson Marine Colonel Aris Mudian said 2,425 patients were put in isolation at tower 6 and 7, and the rest were at tower 4 and 5.

Doni further asserted that people having the potential of becoming virus carriers or asymptomatic carriers (OTG) should be separated from those who have comorbidities. People with comorbidities, he added, are at a high risk of Covid-19 transmission.

Referring to data issued by Persahabatan Hospital, deaths due to Covid-19 were experienced by those who were admitted to the hospital in severe and critical conditions. People with comorbidities unlikely to survive from Covid-19.

“This is why we keep reminding the public that people with comorbidities must live separately from those who work [outside the home] and are likely to be exposed to Covid-19 without presenting symptoms,” Doni said.
