TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The availability of beds in Tangerang Covid-19 hospitals is running low as the city sees increasing positive cases. Mayor Arief R Wismansyah said the bed occupancy rate in 31 hospitals has reached 73.06 percent.

“The surge in positive cases in Tangerang during September increases the need for hospital beds. We will add facilities as an anticipatory measure,” said Arief in Tangerang, Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

The city administration, he added, was striving to meet the needs of isolation rooms for patients with the coronavirus disease. At present, the city has 437 isolation rooms with 3,102 beds in 31 hospitals.

The additional facilities will be set up at referral health community centers or Puskesmas with 48 beds and regional-owned hospitals or RSUD with 60 beds.

In line with the rising number of patients, the regional government also recruited more health workers up to 15,763 people. There were also 1,810 civil servants and freelancers.

As of September 21, 2020, Tangerang has 1,296 Covid-19 cases, with 909 recoveries and 56 fatalities. 1,006 people suspected of having the disease were also being treated at hospitals.
