TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amid the increasing number of merchant migration from offline to online during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gojek has put a high importance in the safety of its driver and merchant partners. The super app’s safety initiative, #AmanBersamaGojek, has proven to make its ecosystem partners feel more secure in earning income in the digital world.

This sense of security is depicted in the results of the latest research conducted by Gojek, where the majority of driver-partners (92%) state that their Gojek accounts are now safer, and feel secure due to the company’s J3K (maintaining safety, health and hygiene) protocol.

In a virtual media discussion held on Friday, Sept. 18, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Gojek Group - George Do shared Gojek’s commitment to ensure platform security for its partners.

Feeling of trust in the security of the platform is also shown by the majority of GoFood merchant partners (93%) who feel safe using GoBiz as a platform for selling and non-cash payments. The three main aspects that make merchant partners feel comfortable with using GoBiz include security in receiving payout, business data protection, and flexibility in managing GoBiz accounts independently.

"We continue to strengthen system security by carrying out various technological innovations under the Gojek SHIELD umbrella following the #AmanBersamaGojek initiative. This innovation is carried out extensively on the driver-partner and merchant partner platforms. So that Gojek can continue to provide the best service, especially now that people increasingly depend on digital services for their daily needs during the pandemic, we continue to protect the safety of millions of driver-partners and merchant partners. With an increasingly secure platform, our partners can work more peacefully without worrying about their digital security. We believe that with more advanced platform security, the positive impact generated by Gojek can expand, especially amid the pandemic,” said George.

Gojek’s latest innovation on the driver-partner platform side is the driver’s face recognition feature. This feature serves to ensure the conformity of data and information regarding the identity of driver-partners. This additional layer of security can protect partners from various attempts to take over accounts illegally by irresponsible parties. The face recognition feature must be used by driver-partners who want to log in to the application to execute orders. This innovation complements other innovations, namely number masking, emergency button, and share trip features.

Security innovations are also carried out on the GoBiz platform for merchant partners, which is equipped with a PIN verification feature, OTP (One Time Password secret code), and a ‘GoBiz User Management’ feature to protect the personal data of merchant partners' business3. Additionally, potential partners can also become Gojek merchant partners safely and easily without intermediaries through the latest innovation, namely the GoBiz Self-Onboarding Feature. Prospective merchant partners can immediately register, verify, and activate their account directly through their mobile device.

Furthermore, Gojek enhances its human resources capabilities in the digital security field by adding senior leaders with deep expertise in cybersecurity and global experience in the technology industry. These leaders include George Do, with experience at NASA and Nasdaq-listed real estate investment firm Equinix; and Chief Information Officer Petrus Phoa, who has led the security team at PayPal, Github, and Box.

GoPay Head of IT Governance, Risk and Compliance, Information Security - Genesha Saputra added that Gojek's efforts do not stop with technology. The superapp also provides education on cybersecurity for its drivers, merchants and the public. This initiative is carried out through Gojek’s communication channels, social media, public webinars as well as through collaboration with numerous parties such as the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Siberkreasi. Gojek believes education is fundamental, considering the low digital literacy of the Indonesian people, which is not proportional to the increasing use of digital applications.

Researcher at the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Universitas Gadjah Mada - Ir. Tony Seno Hartono supports the statement. According to him, digital crimes that are stimulated by psychological manipulation or social engineering still occur during the pandemic.

"This type of psychological manipulation does not take advantage of system vulnerabilities but takes advantage of the negligence and weaknesses of technology users' digital competences. With more and more businesses migrating online, these psychic manipulators are eyeing them. So, it is essential to carry out continuous and consistent education so that individuals and merchants who are using technology can understand and avoid this type of fraud."
