TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mampang Prapatan Sector Police Chief Comr. Sujarwo said at least 100 people were punished for violating the large-scale social restriction or PSBB from Monday to Thursday afternoon during an operation dubbed the Yustisi operation.

“There were more than 100 violators in the last four days,” said the Sujarwo in Jakarta, Friday, September 18.

The Yustisi operation is a joint operation conducted by the Indonesian Military, the National Police, the Mampang Prapatan Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and the Transportation Agency's implementation unit.

Sujarwo explained that violators were given a community sanction, such as cleaning the road for one hour. Most of the violations included not wearing face masks or wearing them improperly.

“We give a humanist sanction, which is a social sanction of cleaning the road,” he added.

The operation was carried out in every village of Mampang Prapatan in the morning and evening. At night, the team monitored restaurants and cafes that did not comply with the health protocols.

Throughout the operation from September 5-14, Satpol PP recorded 31,787 violations of health protocols and the total collected fines reached Rp467 million.

The South Jakarta Health Agency noted that 6,336 people had tested positive for COVID-19 since the first cases were announced on September 13. Of the number, 341 patients were being treated in hospitals, 2,993 patients have made full recovery, and 178 patients died.

Sujarwo hoped the massive operation and socialization could increase public awareness and discipline in implementing the COVID-19 health protocols.
