TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday announced that the government is preparing numerous isolation or quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients to prevent people from conducting self-isolation, after cases emerged coming from home clusters.

According to the president, the government is working closely with a number of hotels that will provide the quarantine facilities.

“We have worked with hotel groups to provide 15 two and three-star hotels located in Jakarta that can accommodate up to 3,000 people,” said Jokowi in a limited meeting streamed by the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube account.

During the meeting, Health Minister Terawan Agus Purnomo said the 3,000 people will be accommodated across 1,500 rooms managed by five hotel groups; Accor, Novotel, Ibis, Tauzia, and Harris. He also opened the possibility of making more rooms available if needed, especially to accommodate non-severe COVID-19 cases from outside of Jakarta.

Currently, the government facilities meant to act as quarantine facilities is the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran emergency hospital, which used to be the facility to accommodate athletes competing in the 2018 Asian Games. The facility houses over 4,000 rooms for minor COVID-19 cases.
