TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday announced that ASEAN foreign ministers had just held a multilateral meeting with partner nations such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand in terms of COVID-19 vaccine affairs and the handling of the pandemic.

Minister Retno said Indonesia is currently negotiating with Canada to obtain the future vaccine.

"Principles of equal access to a vaccine that is safe and affordable is an essential part of the multilateralism implemented amidst the pandemic," Retno said in a release received by Tempo on Thursday, September 10.

She asserted that multilateralism is an important platform that acts as an answer to the global challenges loomed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister said Indonesia highly appreciates Canada's CA$11 million grant for ASEAN’s small and medium enterprises.

Retno Marsudi also expressed support for Canada’s UN resolution on women’s involvement in UN peace missions.
