TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) on Wednesday reports that 59 regional head election candidates across Indonesia have tested positive for COVID-19. This was revealed by KPU chief Arief Budiman in a meeting with the Coordinating Minister of Politic, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.
The KPU chair also claims the confirmed positive cases have grown day-by-day from 37 candidates on Tuesday and has added to 46 this noon. The coordinating Minister agrees that the growing cases must be followed up by rigorous health restrictions in the field.
“Updated 1.5 hours later, there are 58 candidates who are infected by COVID-19 spread across 21 provinces. There was also one more report that came in, taking the tally to 59 people,” Mahfud MD reports Wednesday, September 9.
“Don’t play with this COVID-19 crisis. Obey the health protocols, especially the use of face masks. The government’s focus currently is to have the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) safe from COVID-19,” says Mahfud MD.
