TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An insurance and financing project for chocolate farmers is set to be established in Sulawesi. The project that is driven by numerous organizations will utilize the technology from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA.

The NOAA satellite will feed the agricultural data and provide a number of indicators such as surface temperatures up to ground moisture which comes as an attempt to create precision farming to farmers in Sulawesi.

“There’s no choice than to enter the new digital technology,” says the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AUUI) Head, Hastanto Sri Margi Widodo, in the MarkPlus Industry Roundtable webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

This project involves the AUUI, PT Reasuransi Indonesia, the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the American chocolate brand Mars.

A similar project has been implemented in Africa’s Mozambique, where banks have handed loans for 41,000 cotton and corn farmers.
