TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Jakarta Public Order Agency or Satpol PP confirmed it imposed sanctions on residents who violated the predetermined health protocols by asking them to lie inside a faux coffin for a few minutes.

“Yes, we gave sanctions of lying inside a coffin yesterday,” said East Jakarta Satpol PP Head Budhy Novian to Tempo on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Budhy explained that the type of punishment was spontaneously made. At that time, many people queued for serving their sanction of community service for 60 minutes in Pasar Rebo areas as stipulated in the gubernatorial regulation.

An officer then suggested a replacement by ordering them to enter an empty casket which is usually brought by Covid-19 patrol officers.

Two of the violators agreed to enter the coffin and they were asked to count from one to 100 while contemplating the danger of the virus and their wrongdoing.

Budhy asserted that the use of coffins was not a new policy, but a spontaneous one initiated by the officers to reduce the long line of people waiting for their time to serve voluntary work for violating the Covid-19 health protocols.
